Ray was born on June 17, 1942, in Phoenix AZ. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University. He worked at General Electric and then Honeywell in Phoenix. In January 1975 he received a job offer from Georgia-Pacific in Los Angeles, CA so he and Diana packed up and moved to Anaheim Hills, CA. In 1979 he obtained a Masters in Business Administration from Pepperdine University and shortly thereafter formed Torres & Associates – business management consultants. Ray became involved in many local, personal, and professional activities. He was Chairman of the Small Business Administration; Private Industry Council, Orange County and Anaheim; Anaheim Chamber of Commerce; and Executive Planning Institute to name a few. Ray and Diana loved the California lifestyle, enjoyed golfing, and became patrons of the arts, theater, and music. After 25 years in California, in March of 2001, they moved back to Arizona. Ray quickly became involved in the community and built many lasting relationships.
His most proud achievement was in 2013 when he was an integral part of creating a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Support Education and Employment for Vets (SEE4VETS). This is a legacy that will live on in perpetuity through the establishment of endowed funds for veterans who embark on their educations at community colleges. Throughout his life, Ray worked hard to increase his knowledge. He was very interested in history and business and read many autobiographies of historical and business leaders. Friends and business associates have described Ray as smart, loyal, and kind. He was a person with integrity. At the end of his life, Ray was very courageous and dignified.
On Veteran’s Day, Friday, November 11, 2022, Ramon (Ray) Torres passed away. Ray was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he will be sorely missed.
