SandScript Arts & Literature magazine, the student-run publication of Pima Community College, provides a platform for Pima students to publish literary and artistic works since 1990. Students currently enrolled at Pima contribute original material, including poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture. We produce the magazine annually in the spring semester.

Students enrolled in the class “Literary Magazine Production” (WRT 162) create SandScript, with an editorial board comprising Pima students and one faculty advisor. The editorial board, representing various academic disciplines, curates, edits, and designs each edition. All submissions undergo blind review, ensuring every piece receives thorough consideration regardless of acceptance. Acceptances result from multiple rounds of staff discussions and voting.

Additionally, SandScript awards cash prizes to the top three submissions in poetry, prose, and visual art categories. External judges, distinguished working artists and writers, select the genre contest winners.

Since its establishment in 1990, SandScript has garnered recognition among collegiate magazines, earning numerous awards. From 2015 to 2019, SandScript clinched the Community College Humanities Association’s “Best Magazine” award in their annual National Contest for Collegiate Magazines. Upon the resumption of the CCHA contest in 2022, SandScript contributors received accolades for prose, poetry, and visual arts in the 2022 and 2023 editions.

Support student artists and writers by donating to SandScript. All donations contribute to student awards and may be tax-deductible, as they are not utilized for production or printing expenses.
