Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Each year, the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday gives us a moment not just to remember a leader, but to reflect on a legacy rooted in action. Dr. King’s vision was never passive. It was grounded in service, equity, and the belief that education and opportunity are powerful tools for lasting change.

At Pima Community College, that vision lives on every day in classrooms, community partnerships, and pathways that open doors for learners from all walks of life. Dr. King once said, “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” At PCC, service takes places with faculty and staff who work tirelessly to meet student needs, and also with donors and supporters who invest in the future of our students.

Education remains one of the most effective ways to create equity and upward mobility, and community colleges sit at the heart of that work. Pima serves students who are working, caregiving, returning to school, or stepping into higher education for the first time. These learners reflect the very communities Dr. King fought to uplift. Communities rich with potential, resilience, and ambition.

Pima Foundation is proud to support this mission by connecting generosity to impact. Scholarships, emergency assistance, food security resources, and program support all help remove barriers that too often stand in the way of success. Our work, alongside with you, is an investment in people, in workforce development, and in a stronger Southern Arizona.

The MLK holiday is also recognized nationally as a Day of Service, reminding us that progress happens when we show up for one another. Whether through volunteering, mentoring, advocacy, or giving, each act of service moves us closer to a more just and inclusive future.

As we honor Dr. King, we are reminded that his dream continues through collective effort. It lives on in classrooms where knowledge empowers, in partnerships that strengthen communities, and in every student who is given the opportunity to pursue their goals.

Today, we reflect. Tomorrow, we continue the work.

Thank you for being part of a community that believes in education as a force for good and in service as a responsibility we all share.
