Unidos, Somos Más

Every year, Hispanic Heritage Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate the cultures, traditions, histories and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

This year’s theme, “Unidos, Somos Más,” or “Together, We Are More,” is a reminder of what becomes possible when we come together.

And when I personally think about my Hispanic heritage, I think about how food brought us all together as a family when I was younger, and still to this day with friends. It’s amazing to see what food alone can do, so imagine coming together for what you believe in.

At Pima Foundation, we are proud to support Pima Community College, a college that reflects the diversity of Southern Arizona, bringing together students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and community partners from many different backgrounds and experiences. Each person brings something to the community, and if we combine those individual experiences, it becomes something greater.

Education has always had a way of bringing people together. At Pima, students come to learn a new skill, earn a degree, prepare for a career or create a path toward a four-year university. But along the way, they also become part of a community.

For Hispanic and Latino students, that journey can carry an especially meaningful connection to family and community. Earning a credential can represent more than a personal accomplishment. It can be a step toward creating new opportunities for the people who come after them and that is the power of education. One student’s success can reach far beyond the classroom because it can inspire a sibling, support a family, strengthen a workplace or open a door for someone else.

And that is where “Unidos, Somos Más” comes to life in education.

When we support one another, we create more opportunities. When we invest in students, we strengthen the communities they will go on to serve. When we celebrate the experiences that make our community unique, we create a stronger sense of belonging for everyone.

Pima Foundation is proud to be part of that work. Through the generosity of donors and community partners, we help support scholarships, academic programs and opportunities that allow Pima students to pursue their goals and build their futures.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the many contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities, not only throughout history, but in the classrooms, workplaces and neighborhoods of Tucson today.

We celebrate the students pursuing their dreams, the families supporting them and the community that continues to show what is possible when we come together.

Unidos, somos más. Together, we are more.
