In the early ’70s, Charles Land began at Pima Community College as Adjunct Faculty. He was hired as full-time Faculty in 1978—in his nearly 30 years of service, he was a key contributor and leader to the College as it grew and evolved. For 18 years he served as Chair of West Campus’ Mathematics Department where he was known for mentoring and supporting new Faculty and Adjunct Faculty. He was among the first in the country to implement computer-based mathematics classes. In 1996, Charles received a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Award for Outstanding Contributions in Community College TeachingCharles’ peer Faculty has consistently noted how Charles always prioritized the interest of his students; he was always proactive and went above and beyond in his commitment to student success.

We honor Charles and PCC students who meet the following criteria for scholarships drawn from the Charles Land Memorial Endowment:

  • Pima Community College students enrolled in any academic program that leads to a STEM degree or related field of study
  • Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits 
  • Show financial need

Preference will be given to talented STEM students who are Mathematic-focused students. Monies from this scholarship may be used for educational expenses planned or incurred at Pima Community College.
