Lea Mason-Kohlmeyer
October 4, 1965 – August 26, 2022

This fund was established to provide a source of funding for archaeology students who share Lea Mason-Kohlmeyer’s passion for field archaeology and biological anthropology.  A Tucson native, Lea first took an advanced mapping class through the Pima Community College Archaeology Centre, while a graduate student in forensic anthropology at the University of Arizona.  She began working full-time for the Archaeology Centre in 1992 and continued in various staff and faculty roles until her untimely death in 2022.

Lea’s love for and dedication to students, archaeology, and life will be forever remembered by her colleagues, friends, and the multitude of students she inspired. She will be sorely missed by everyone who had the good fortune of knowing her.

The Pima Community College Archaeology Centre, with support from Lea’s family, friends, colleagues, and former students, have established this memorial scholarship to honor her memory and to support future archaeology students.  True to Lea’s interests, the scholarship is designed to assist students who strive to perfect their archaeological field skills, train to become biological anthropologists or bioarchaeologists, and continue their education in anthropology.  We trust that Lea’s passion for archaeology, her strong sense of adventure, and her enthusiastic good humor will live on in future students in the same way that it does in the students she touched over her 30 years at PCC.

The Lea Mason-Kohlmeyer Memorial Scholarship Endowment is a Foundation-managed endowment that provides scholarships to Pima Community College students.  Those considered eligible for the scholarship must be PCC students who have completed at least 6 credit hours in ARC prefix courses.
