Leading the Change

Who leads change? While there are many who do so, we’re focusing on strong women.

March is Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the achievements, leadership, and lasting contributions of women across generations. This year, the National Women’s History Alliance has announced the 2026 theme: “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.”

This year’s theme honors women who are rebuilding systems for long-term sustainability across themes including environmental, economic, and social, while fostering equity and resilience for future generations. It recognizes leaders who are not only creating change today, but reimagining a more just and inclusive tomorrow.

At Pima Foundation, our team is made up of women who, each day, work to create sustainable opportunity through education. Whether connecting donors to student scholarships, stewarding transformational gifts, managing operations with integrity and transparency, or sharing stories that inspire community support. Our work centers on building pathways that last. Education is one of the most powerful tools for long-term economic mobility and community resilience, and we are proud to support Pima Community College in strengthening that foundation across Southern Arizona.

Sustainability is not only about the environment. It is about creating systems that last. It is about ensuring students can complete their education debt-free. It is about expanding workforce training in high-demand fields. It is about supporting food security programs, emergency assistance, and scholarship access so learners can persist and succeed. These are the building blocks of economic and social sustainability for our region.

This month also includes International Women’s Day on March 8, with its 2026 campaign theme, #GiveToGain, a reminder that collective action drives progress. When we give, whether through mentorship, philanthropy, advocacy, or leadership, we gain stronger communities, stronger institutions, and greater equity for all.

We are inspired not only by national leaders, but by the women in our own community, students balancing family and coursework, faculty shaping future professionals, donors investing in opportunity and establishing scholarships, and our board serving selflessly. Change happens at every level, and it happens because women step forward.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we honor those who came before us and the progress still ahead. We are proud to be part of a College, and a community, where women are shaping sustainable futures through education, leadership, and service.

Together, we are leading change that lasts.
