Your donation will provide needed financial assistance, mentoring, guidance, and programmatic support for PCC students with aspirations to transfer to a four-year college to complete a degree in STEM – Science, Computer Technology, Engineering, or Math. Nationally, only 1 in 10 community college students with aspirations to complete a bachelor’s degree in STEM actually do so. Pima-UAZ STEM Bridge, a program that began in 2020 with grant support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), has reversed that trend.
By beginning “wraparound retention support” and providing scholarships and mentoring for students during the year before they transfer, the program has created that bridge of support and had a success rate of 90%, with 9 of 10 students transferring successfully and then persisting or graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in STEM at University of Arizona. The success of the program is particularly remarkable, given that it was all lower-income students who participated and benefited. Your support will help PCC keep this program going, now that the NSF grant funding has ended.
