September 28 is International Podcast Day, a day to celebrate the way podcasts bring people together, give us new perspectives and sometimes, simply give someone a chance to tell their story.
For us at the Pima Foundation, it’s also a chance to celebrate a project that has become an important part of how we share the Pima story: Pima Voices.
Pima Voices was created as a space to connect, thrive and explore the Tucson community through conversations with the people who make it what it is. And over the course of the podcast, those voices have come from all across Pima Community College and Southern Arizona.
Students have shared what brought them to Pima and where they hope their education will take them. Faculty members have talked about the programs they care about and the students they serve. Alumni have reflected on where their Pima journey began. Donors and community partners have shared why they believe in education and choose to invest in the future of our community.
No two conversations are the same, and that’s what makes Pima Voices so special.
The podcast isn’t just about asking questions and recording answers. It’s about giving someone the space to share something we may not have known before. Sometimes it’s a story about a career. Sometimes it’s about a program at Pima. And sometimes, it’s simply about a person and the experiences that shaped them.
When we launched Pima Voices, we wanted to create another way to tell the stories happening across Pima Community College and throughout Tucson. Since then, the podcast has introduced listeners to people who remind us that Pima is more than a place to earn a degree or certificate, but rather it’s a community.
And the podcast has reinforced something we already know at the Foundation: behind every program, scholarship, partnership and investment is a person with a story.
That’s why, on International Podcast Day, we’re celebrating the voices that have made Pima Voices what it is and the many stories still waiting to be told.
Because sometimes, all it takes is a conversation to remind us how connected we really are.
And there’s always another story worth hearing.
